GasKap - a social media app for schools

The purpose: The best all-in-one app for students, teachers, and parents to keep all your texts, video chats, classes, news, and live events in one place. GasKap was created to fill the gap for students learning in remote, online or distance environments and to keep teachers engaged.

The background: My two high schoolers lost all motivation to do online school (not to mention their grades fell off a cliff). The only motivation my sophomore son could muster came from the one teacher who offered online video for his students. I thought, ‘if video keeps them engaged and they’re already fluent in Instagram, what if there was an app that looked and felt like a social media app for my kids to communicate with their teachers, while at the same time allowing teachers to get video to their students?’ I figured my kids were already engaged when it comes to their social media apps, so this would need ‘to keep teachers engaged’. The thought with this was to keep the app student-focused. So, throughout the process of developing the app, I went to my kids for feedback (that’s not to say I won’t ask teachers for theirs, but students’ feedback comes first and foremost—after all, if they don’t like, they won’t use it). I held off on the idea for a while until I kept hearing complaints from my children about the apps they started using at the beginning of the 2020-2021 school year—the apple and platforms that shall go unnamed. This gave me the motivation to actually do something about my idea.

More details: Essentially, it’s a private social media platform for your school. It combines the best of today’s popular social media apps (like chat, sharing, and commenting) with eLearning features (like online classes), giving students the ability to engage with their teachers, while giving parents direct access to teachers. GasKap was also designed to work with your existing platforms so you won’t need to start over or drop your favorite platforms. Already using Zoom or Google video? Just send the link in GasKap for students to access it.

Current features:

Upload classes with pre-recorded or live video using your preferred platforms (Zoom, Google, YouTube, etc.)
